afflict uh-flikt ]: 1. 괴롭히다 2. 피해를 입히다

1. to distress with mental or bodily pain; trouble greatly or grievously:
to be afflicted with migraine headaches.

to humble.

 

affliction uh-flik-shuhn ]: 격식 고통, 고통의 원인

1. a state of pain, distress, or grief; misery:
They sympathized with us in our affliction.
2. a cause of mental or bodily pain, as sickness, loss, calamity, or persecution.

e.g. The proverb teaches: "No one is more unhappy than the one who is never in adversity; the greatest affliction of life is never to be afflicted at all."

1. comfort in sorrow, misfortune, or trouble; alleviation of distress or discomfort.
2. something that gives comfort, consolation, or relief:
The minister's visit was the dying man's only solace.
